I pondered over the technicalities.
I thought about the possibilities.
It then struck my imagination
To take it to another destination.
The possibilities endless
The technicalities useless
My imagination careless
My destination pointless
I didn’t need anyone;
I didn’t need anything;
I had my Sewing Machine!
I had my inspiration.
I need not look anywhere
For my relaxation.
I have it in front of me –
A technological fascination.
I have my creativity in full gear;
My dream and my reality together.
Ideas and enthusiasm
Creating a harmony
To find the right tune,
To fly into the Sewing Oblivion
To sail the air in unison.
My Sewing Machine and I –
We create the tune.
We sing the lines,
Perfect in every chord,
Beautiful with chimes.
The waves of the sound
Hits every bound
Making the happenings happen
And then… IT HAPPENS
Scenarios change slowly…
Fabric becomes a garment.
Garment is wearable.
Satisfaction personified.
Elation electrified.
Smiles reaching the eye.
Positivity creeping high.
Mirror smiling back.
Achievement rewarded.
Mojo awarded.
Winner all the way!
A creation is here to stay!
A book could be written –
From inception to transformation
From nothing to something
From an an idea to a movement
From a draft to the fabric
From cut out pieces to an item.
I made it happen.

Salaam and Hello to all my readers
August has come upon us amidst a new school term and preparing for our upcoming Annual Event. The days seem to be creeping on as we spend our lives oblivious of all the time we waste. I do hope you are all in good health, making the most of your time and doing things that make a significant difference in whatever context you find yourself in. Time is a valued asset… but time management skills is no rocket science. It’s the power that each one of us has which allows us to to hold onto moments, making use of every given minute. Make a change! If nothing else it will, at the very least, add some spice to our lives. Fashion is the most powerful art there is.
It is movement, design and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we would like to be. – Blair Waldorf As technology advances and we realise the technological blessing that Google is, many students have taken online tutorials to learn new things, or new ways of doing old things. To some, it is wonderful at first and soon it becomes difficult to understand. Those that need help and would like to do a short lesson on making the garment or craft, help is at hand. We now do Google Help! This can be safely classified as professional development. Whether you learnt sewing at the Academy or picked up the art on your own, the main aspect is that you are learning. We are never too old to start or continue learning. As the saying goes: Seek knowledge from the Cradle to the Grave. Let us begin to live the saying and act upon it.
Fashion is not about brands. Neither is it about labels. It is something that comes from within you. The Hautelife Event that took place in Umhlanga recently got many sewists back on track again. Inspiration flowed as local and international designers displayed their creations hoping to sell their designs and create a niche locally. The tremendous success goes to show that exclusive clothing has and will always be the forefront of of the Designers’ World. We don’t have to try hard to make it happen, Just Do It and it will happen. Whether you are Designing, Drafting, Cutting or Sewing, inspire yourself by looking into a future that will give you something positive to look forward to. Be it a career choice, a hobby or a pass-time, let your Sewing Skills work for you. And about all those half-done projects and works-in-progress? Train yourself to focus on finishing a product before starting a new one. Well begun is half doneis what Mary Poppins says. And there’s truth in it, too! I do hope I have inspired you all to Dress to Impress as we would like this year’s show to have that code – Dress to Impress! Lets inculcate it in our every day lives and make magical moments happen when coordinating our dressing. Every event can be remembered by what you wear and this plays a major part in remembering our happy memories. The choice is ours. Let’s MAKE IT HAPPEN. Best of Luck to all those who are challenging yourselves to actually try to Make It Happen. Till next time. |
