Our modular programme comprises of a set of three courses (16 lessons in each) which, if taken to completion, will give you the skills and expertise you require to open your own business in sewing and design. Module 1
Our renowned Learn to Sew in 16 Lessons course was established in 2007. It aims to empower ladies by teaching a life skill. We have been upgrading and upskilling women in our community for over a decade. Contact us now to discuss YOUR empowerment plan.
- 16 lessons @ 3 hours each = 48 hours
- Twice weekly (Mon & Wed OR Tue & Thurs) = *8 weeks to completion
- OR on Saturdays = *16 weeks to completion

You will learn
- to use your sewing machine (threading, etc.)
- a variety of stitches (buttonholes, embroidery, etc.)
- how to take body measurements
- Drafting, cutting, stitching of:
- an apron
- 5 different styles of dresses / tops (including variety of collars, sleeves, etc.)
- 2 styles of trousers (zip & elastic)
- Skirt, blouse, jacket
- 2 styles of kaftan / abaya
Course requirements
- Items on SSA Buying list (available upon registration)
- Sewing machine, new or pre-loved. If purchasing one for the course, please ask our advice regarding quality tried and tested brands in a range of price brackets which we have come across.
- Dress fabrics and haberdashery as required per lesson (list available upon registration)
Cost
- R4000 per module
- 50% deposit required to secure you place
- Remainder to be paid on or before the 7th lesson
- Strictly cash directly to the Academy OR EFT into our designated bank account.
- No cheques, cheque deposits, cash deposits, etc. accepted due to incurred back charges. All incurred charges in this regard will be for the student’s account.

Pre-requisite
Beginner Level

- 23 garments tailored to your measurements
- Stitching for others, if you desire
- Large variety of collars, sleeves, patterns, styles, etc.

- Graduates of Module 3 participate in our annual Student Designer Showcase and Graduation (see Events Gallery)
