Warm summery greetings to all my dear ones
February came upon us as suddenly as an unseen wave. The Academy has never been so busy. Our peak timeslots have filled up well in advance and the amount and variety of individual lessons have also increased.
Introducing our Modular Courses – with excitement!
Over the past 10 years, our syllabus has become our strength and backbone. With various revisions over the years, our course notes are thorough and concise. All of our courses come with complete notes which may be filed or bound as each student prefers. In the past, as the need arose, we introduced the Intermediate and Advanced level courses… and that has, till now, been sufficient for our students’ needs.
We have , with humble honour, added another level in designing for students to experience and create their very own Couture Collection. Enrollments for this new level, called Module 4, are now open. The Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level courses are being renamed Modules 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
More about Module 4
Module 4 is open to new and existing students who have experience in dressmaking. This means that, even if you have only completed the Beginner Level course (Module 1), you may enroll to create your own Courture Collection in Module 4!

There has been some demand from ladies who already have basic sewing skills and more ladies have been joining us who already know about garment construction. To assist them effectively, we now do placement tests and give advice on which module would be most suitable for them to join. In order to bridge them into a higher module, we offer a free lesson for introduction into the module.
More and more ladies have been signing up for one-on-one Professional Development lessons and we are very pleased to see the variety of garment-related backgrounds which the ladies come from. Some have worked in fabric factories, others were sample-hands, and some have worked in the CMT industry… Whatever your background, we have a class to offer you!
Our renovations have been happening slowly but surely so as not to inconvenience our students too much, but the air-conditioning has kept the spirits up and the moods calm in these searing summer days.
We’re are 10 this year!
We would like to take this opportunity to ask you to join us in making our 10th annual show a breathtaking success. In this light, we would appreciate your feedback and suggestions. We plan to have a bigger and better show this year (7 October, save the date!).
Look forward to…
The cost of living is escalating and, with food prices increasing, clothing takes a backseat. Silent Sewing Academy has budget-beating clothing ideas and we are in the process of developing a workshop to assist you in making your sewing skills an empowering one. Easy-to-make and easy-to-wear garment construction as part of our Sew-to-Sell empowerment strategy.
