My dear readers,
I do hope you are all well and on point.
On Saturday, we celebrated our 10 annual Show! WOW! What a SHOW! Our students put on an outstanding performance. Ideas and designs came to life, fused with adrenaline and enthusiasm, as the models waltzed down the long aisle, swishing and swaying to the beat of the background sounds… all to uproarious applause.
Our Guest of Honour, Tahera Fakroodeen, brought a feeling of nostalgia. Past and present students created a fusion of guests as Tahera Fakroodeen took us down memory lane. The audience sat in awe as Tahera related how I had joined her sewing classes back in 1977. The audience gasped as she mentioned that she used to charged R8 for eight lessons in those days, and I did three levels with her, making it a grand total investment of R24! That was the economy at that time.
She went on say that she knew I had it me. Here I need to pause and say that I also realized that when a student does the Module 1 at Silent Sewing Academy I know their potential. This is what made Tahera Fakroodeen a living legend. She has taught over 3000 ladies in her time and still keeps herself busy with making Abayas and other things. This is our inspiration. This is our goal. To achieve the impossible. To break the buzz of laziness in this generation who exersize their minds only on social media. We need to make them focus on this Blessing of Harmony and Contentment. We need to get this generation into the world of the Sewists. Tahera Fakroodeens speech motivated the audience. We were thrilled at the response. We pray that she be rewarded for her generosity of giving her precious time in teaching.
Our Show started with the opening of the Spring season. Absolutely on par with our current season. Nishita a current Module 2 pupil opened the Show with a spectacular formal Eastern/Western fusion outfit. Our Past n Present Module I and 2 followed in their casual attire spruced to show of pyjamas and every day wear.
Then came our Module 3 students and models. All students had been given a set of fabrics for each season. They had to design and create a garment of their choice. The results were mind boggling. One by one they entered through the white curtains with fairy lights sparkling to waltz down the long T-shaped runaway, pausing to have their pictures taken.
Words do no justice as my precious ladies showed off their garments. Their nervous smiles and giggles, rushing away in the change room, made this one-of-a-kind show a memory that will live with whomever had the good fortune to be there.
To add to the excitement, my M’ChooChoo perfume was launched. All guests received a travel-sized vial with the M’ChooChoo logo. The response we received is enough for us to actually sell our perfumes at a discounted price to all that are on our emailing list. Prices will be featured in the next newsletter or on WattsApp before month end.
The testimony lies in all the feedback we received. That’s the reason we delayed this letter. The past and present students are so excited that they are already suggesting what to do for our next Show!
The weeks of preparation came to fruition and a contented lull can be felt as you walk into the school.
I take this opportunity to bid goodbye to my beautiful class of 2017, my 10 graduates in my 10th year of teaching, every thing of the best. May the power of your sewing overpower any negativity and empower you to reach new heights. Go on with your lives and strive in *Making it happen*
Here at the Academy we face the term with an influx of new students with new classes starting. Enrolments are also open for next year. If you’d like to join, book before the end of the year to beat the price hike. There will be a perk offered to students next year, hence the slight price increase.
I leave you with a thought:
Your life is a message to the world. Make sure it is an INSPIRING one. Go and find the U in YOU.
Till next time
Mrs A
